Frequently asked questions
Where does Wattfeed's data come from?+
All data is sourced from official Indian government publications — primarily POSOCO daily generation reports, CEA monthly generation and capacity data, MNRE renewable energy statistics, and IEX market data. We never use estimated or modelled data unless explicitly stated. Full source citations appear on every dashboard chart and data table.
How often is the dashboard updated?+
Daily metrics are typically updated by 10am IST each morning, drawing from the previous day's POSOCO reports. Monthly data (capacity additions, state-wise statistics) is updated within 5 days of CEA's monthly release. Our methodology page has the full update schedule.
Can I use Wattfeed data in my research or publication?+
Yes — Wattfeed data visualisations and analysis are free to use for non-commercial research, journalism, and educational purposes with attribution. For commercial licensing or embedding the dashboard in your own product, please write to us at data@wattfeed.com.
I found a data error. How do I report it?+
Thank you — we take data accuracy seriously. Please email data@wattfeed.com with the specific metric, the date it relates to, what you believe is incorrect, and your source. We aim to investigate and correct confirmed errors within 24 hours.
How can I write for Wattfeed Insights?+
We welcome guest analysis pieces from researchers, policy professionals, and practitioners with expertise in India's energy sector. Pieces should be data-driven, original, and between 800–1,500 words. Pitch us a headline and 2–3 sentences at hello@wattfeed.com.
Is The Weekly Watt newsletter free?+
Yes, The Weekly Watt is completely free. The Grid Pulse monthly report is also free during our launch period. The newsletter and dashboard will always have a free tier.
Wattfeed
Est. 2025
Wattfeed is an independent data journalism project tracking India's power sector. Built by a Chennai-based researcher who got tired of digging through PDFs to answer simple questions about India's grid.
We believe public energy data should be easy to access, easy to understand, and honestly presented. Everything on this site is free, source-cited, and built with that principle in mind.
